It happened near 108th Street and 67th Drive in Forest Hills around 9:30 a.m., hours after Mayor Eric Adams met with NYPD district governors to tackle rising crime. His last moments were recorded on video before he was shot in the center of a residential street. The 45-year-old food delivery worker appears to be boarding his scooter and exiting at 108th Street when someone approaches him and shoots him in the chest. This is 45-year-old Yan Zhiwen, a hard-working food delivery worker from Queens, who was shot and killed nearby Saturday night. He worked at the Great Wall restaurant in Forest Hills for over a decade and leaves behind 3 children. @CBSNewYork pic.twitter.com/vIJ1nB5T1D – Christina Fan (@Christinafantv) May 1, 2022 Jan’s sad widow, still shocked and unable to cope with the loss, told CBS2’s Christina Fan that when she arrived at the hospital, she was already gone. “They told me, ‘Your husband is dead.’ I told them they were lying. My heart broke into pieces. “I told him please get up and come home with me,” said Kun Ying Zhao. Family members said Yan was the most affectionate and hardworking father of three, the youngest just 2 years old. Every day for 14 years, he worked from dawn to dusk at the Great Wall restaurant in Queens. Recently, he also opened a laundry with his wife to take better care of his children. “At first we all thought he was stolen, but to find out he was killed for no reason on the street, I can not understand,” said Cheng Long Huang, nephew. Jan’s assassination came less than 24 hours after Mayor Adams held a rare meeting with district governors over the weekend, demanding solutions to stem the rising tide of crime. As of Sunday, each municipality has a violence reduction coordinator. But neighbors said they were worried if the changes were happening fast enough. When asked what makes them wonder, one person said, “Who in the neighborhood would do such a thing. What else could they do in the future if they did not find it.” Police are seeking help to locate the perpetrator, who is said to have left in a light gray or brown Lexus heading east on 67th Drive.
