Arthur Holser-Hermert was pronounced dead at the site of the A259 crash in Peacehaven on Saturday 30 April. Police said a 27-year-old man on the street was seriously injured after colliding with a marked police vehicle near the intersection of Dorothy Avenue. “Despite the best efforts of paramedics and correspondents, he died on the spot,” a police spokesman said. I have the worst news to tell everyone. “Last night, around midnight, my brother Arthur Helser-Hermert was beaten and killed by the police. “Be quiet up there my boy. Take care of mom and make sure you give her a lot of pressure from me. “If you have any information or evidence, if you would be kind enough to forward it to me so we can understand what happened, as the Sussex police still have not contacted us about the incident.” Arthur Holser-Hermert Police said that as the incident involved a police vehicle, the matter was referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC), which will conduct an independent investigation. An eyewitness to the collision said that the police cars were “in pursuit”. “It looked like police cars with no signs of being chased,” he said. “It looked like a second with no signs of hitting a pedestrian.” A section of the A259 South Coast Road was closed in both directions for exploration, but has since reopened. Attorney General Jo Banks said: “This is a tragic incident and we fully support the IOPC investigation. “We want to thank the drivers and residents for their patience while the A259 South Coast was closed.” An IOPC spokesman said: “We have launched an independent investigation into police actions prior to a deadly pedestrian collision. A man about 20 years old unfortunately died on the spot. “We were notified of the incident by the Sussex police and sent investigators to the scene and the police after the incident to begin our investigation. “Our thoughts are with the man’s family right now.” Police are urging anyone with camera information or video of the incident to email [email protected] citing Operation Ambleside.
