Leading the news: Birx told CBS on “Face the Nation” that she expects to see a wave of COVID-19 cases across the South this summer, similar to those of 2020 and 2021.
“What has happened every time is that we have had a summer wave in the South and a winter wave starting in our Northern Plains and moving downward, accelerated by Thanksgiving and the holidays,” Birks said. “Each of these increases has a difference of about four to six months,” he added. “This tells me that physical immunity is declining considerably in the general population after four to six months – that a significant increase will occur again.”
What it says: “We need to make it very clear to the American people that your protection against infection is declining.”
“So if you’re going to see your grandmother, or someone who has metastatic breast cancer, or someone who is being treated for Hodgkin’s disease, or a family member with Down syndrome, you need to get tested before you go.”
