UPDATE: 3:25 p.m. The independent BC police officer shared some more information about a death in Vernon that he is investigating. The Independent Investigation Bureau says information provided by the Vernon RCMP states that “at approximately 7:25 a.m. on April 25, police arrived at a residence to transport a man to the hospital …” “The man was taken to hospital without incident, but suffered a medical problem shortly after his arrival. The man was found to have died shortly afterwards.” The IIO was notified of the death shortly after it took place and has launched an investigation to determine who, if any, role or inaction of the police may have played a role in the death. ORIGINAL: 12:20 p.m. The independent BC police officer investigates a death involving Vernon RCMP. Although the details of the incident are few, the Office of Independent Investigations confirms that the death occurred on April 25. IIO spokeswoman Rebecca Whalen says the death did not occur at Vernon’s cells, but the investigation includes Vernon’s extract. There were no details other than that the investigation “is open and ongoing”. Vernon RCMP could not provide details and sent any comments to the IIO.
