A man in his 20s is in critical condition after the incident at the Islamic Center on Newton Street in Bradford. A West Yorkshire police spokesman said: “Officers made an arrest after a man was seriously injured in a gunshot wound inside the Islamic Center on Newton Street in Bradford today (May 2). “Emergency services were called to the scene at 10.06 and located a man about 20 years old with serious injuries. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and is in critical condition. “After investigations, a man was arrested by a nearby address in connection with the incident and is currently in custody. “The officers are not looking for anyone else in relation to what has happened. “Both the victim and the suspect had attended prayers separately at the Islamic Center before the attack. The matter is not being treated as an act of hatred or terrorism at this time.” Bradford Police Chief Rob McCoubrey said: “Detectives are conducting several investigations into this serious incident today and a man remains in police custody after being arrested in connection with the attack on the victim. “We are not looking for anyone else in connection with what happened and local NPT officers are conducting reassurance patrols and talking to locals. “This is clearly a painful incident for the victim’s family and the local community, and West Yorkshire Police will continue to provide visible reassurance and support as the investigation progresses.
