Footage emerged from South Paisley and Renfrewshire MP drinking from a can while surrounded by football fans. The video was first published on the website of Spectator magazine, which reported that it took place on a train traveling to Glasgow Central after a football match between Ayr United and Partick Thistle. The alcohol ban on ScotRail trains was extended when the rail franchise was nationalized on 1 April. A spokesman for the MP said: “Mhairi reminded the rules and apologizes.” Nicola Sturgeon was asked to apologize to the MP while she was campaigning in Edinburgh ahead of the local elections. The First Secretary said she had not spoken to Black about the incident. He told the PA news agency: “I apologize, I’m sure he will deeply regret this slip. “But she did the right thing and apologized and I know Mhairi takes her behavior and integrity extremely seriously.” He later told reporters he did not believe ScotRail’s ban on alcohol should be lifted.
