It happened around 6:42 p.m. near the intersection of East Pastorius and Baynton streets, while District 14 police officers were investigating an unrelated homicide in the Germantown section of town. Investigators say a dark gray or silver Nissan SUV hit the square and two or three suspects started shooting a 31-year-old man walking down the street. Police say the officer’s car was hit. “Officers were in an unmarked vehicle in the background of this shooting, and in fact, their vehicle was hit once,” said Philadelphia Police Inspector DF Pace. “They were not sure if they were ambushed or if it was a different kind of shooting. Then they recognized the vehicle and started firing back.” Police in shooting on Baynton Avenue in Germantown. Police say plainclothes police officers were watching an unrelated homicide when suspects in a dark SUV got up and fired 27 shots at a man. The police saw the shots and they started firing as well. Two officers fired a total of nine times. The victim was rushed to the local hospital by the police where he later died. Investigators say police bullets do not appear to have injured anyone, but the whole incident is under investigation. No arrests have been made.
