A press release on Saturday from the Surrey RCMP states that the two suspects are teenagers belonging to the Muslim community and are collaborating with the investigation. The RCMP had received a report on Wednesday night, according to which someone in a moving vehicle had thrown water at three pedestrians and a few minutes later the car veered off the road and almost hit one of the people who was walking. The National Council of Canadian Muslims, the BC Muslim Union, had said it was “seriously concerned”. Police say the next steps in resolving the issue may include the BC Prosecutor’s Office or an out-of-court remedial approach that “would allow all parties to meet and express the impact this incident had on them and to the wider community. “ Surrey RCMP Assistant Commissioner Brian Edwards says the incident shows the importance of reporting all riots to the police so that they can be fully investigated.
