The good news for Pearson Airport in Mississauga and travelers is that business activities are back at the airport as travel restrictions due to COVID-19 are eased or lifted altogether. The not-so-good news, but mostly unavoidable, is that a near return to normalcy also means potentially larger queues and waiting at the airport. While pre-pandemonium passenger numbers in Pearson have not yet returned, the recent rise – particularly the increase in international flight arrivals – has reportedly created some long queues at the airport. According to the Pearson Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA), which runs Pearson, a recent increase in the number of international passengers during rush hour has created some challenges. Because some of the pandemic-related air travel restrictions still apply, the increase in passenger traffic has led to some of the higher-than-usual expectations for travelers. About 30,000 international travelers arrive in Pearson daily, and that number is expected to rise to 45,000 during the summer. In addition, the major Sunwing Airline technical issues that arose last week, delaying tens of thousands of passengers for days, continue to affect travelers to Pearson. As always, airport officials urge frustrated travelers to be patient and ask them to interact politely with Pearson staff. Incoming travelers are also reminded that they must submit personal information using the ArriveCAN application prior to landing in Canada. Insauga Advertising Standards and Writing Policies
