This represents 266 fewer patients in the hospital than on Saturday, but it is still 48 more than a week ago, when 1,362 were hospitalized.
The county says 42 percent of those treated with COVID-19 were hospitalized because of the virus.
The ICU treats 187 patients with COVID-19, of whom 153 have been admitted to the ICU due to the virus.
The average number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 last week was 1,621. That average was 1,530 patients last week.
The infectious disease specialist Dr. Isaac Bogach tweeted on Sunday that hospitalizations for the virus appear to be falling.
“COVID-19-related hospitalizations appear to be falling in Ontario and the rate of positive cases continues to decline, now to ~ 13% from ~ 19% in mid-April,” Bogoch wrote on Twitter. “Sewage signals are volatile. Still a lot of COVID out there, but overall improvement (with some regional variability). “
The county confirmed 2,243 more cases Sunday, but that number is considered severely underestimated due to limited PCR testing.
The numbers used in this story are in the Ontario Department of Health’s Daily Epidemiological Summary COVID-19. The number of cases for any city or region may differ slightly from that reported by the province, as local units report data at different times.
