The death toll from the new coronavirus in Ontario remained the same on Monday, with a total of 12,842 deaths. According to the Ministry of Health, 1,423 people are being treated for COVID-19, of which 211 are in the intensive care unit. The number of COVID-19-related treatments has risen slightly since the previous day, although data released on Monday is likely to be underestimated as not all hospitals provide data to the ministry over the weekend. With just over 11,800 COVID-19 tests processed in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health reports that the province has a positive rate of about 14 percent. An additional 1,275 laboratory-confirmed cases of the disease were recorded on Monday, although that number remains underestimated due to a lack of PCR tests. Sewage data published by the Ontario COVID-19 Scientific Advisory Board appear to indicate the concentration of the new coronavirus in most areas. “Sometimes it’s a little high, sometimes it’s a little low, sometimes it’s a plateau and of course this is a huge province, so it’s different in different parts of the province,” said UHN infectious disease specialist Dr. Isaac Bogoch on CP24 on Monday.
