Pelosi and Zelenski both posted footage Sunday morning of the unannounced visit. A statement from Pelosi’s office said the visit was the first by an official congressional delegation to Ukraine since the invasion of Russia and that US lawmakers would now continue their travels to Poland. Zelensky posted a video on Twitter showing the US delegation welcoming him and other Ukrainian officials outdoors before going to a conference room. “We believe we are visiting you to thank you for your fight for freedom. We are on the border of freedom and your struggle is a struggle for everyone. “Our commitment is to be there for you until the race is over,” Pelozi said in the video. The visit comes a week after US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin traveled to Kyiv. The couple promised more military assistance to Ukraine. In a statement, Pelosi said Zelensky had conveyed the need for security, financial and humanitarian assistance to “address the catastrophic human deaths of the Ukrainian people by [Russian President Vladimir] “Putin’s devilish invasion.” “The delegation proudly gave us the message that additional US support is on the way,” Pelosi said. Last week, the Biden administration asked Congress to approve a $ 33 billion bailout package for Ukraine, including more than $ 20 billion in new military and security assistance. “You need to know that we will win and we will win together,” Zelenski said in a video posted on Twitter by Pelosi. The delegation included other US lawmakers, including Gregory Mick, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Adam Siff, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. Pelosi’s office said the delegation would meet in Poland with President Andrei Duda to “thank our Polish allies for their commitment and humanitarian effort.”
