In the incident, the child, a 10-year-old girl, was injured “life threateningly”. A spokesman for the Meteorological Police confirmed that the child and four other people injured in the crash had been taken to London hospitals.
The collision of several vehicles took place around 1.43 p.m. on the M4 motorway to the east between junction 4 with Heathrow Airport and junction 3 with Hayes / Heston. The road was initially blocked in both directions, but the westbound freeway reopened.

Inrix, the traffic data company, said an ambulance was present, while a Met Police spokesman confirmed that the ambulance had transported the girl to the hospital. The incident earlier sparked queues on the M25 clockwise between the Staines Junction 13 and the M4 Junction 15.
Inrix said: “The M4 Eastbound closed with long delays, queuing due to a serious accident, two cars involved between the J4 (Heathrow / Uxbridge) and the J3 A312 The Parkway (Hayes / Heston). Congestion on the M25 J15 and along A4 Bath street north of Heathrow as people take the diversion.
“The crash happened just before 14:00 on the highway to the east, which remains closed after the arrival of an ambulance.”
A Met Police spokesman added: “At 1.43pm on Sunday, May 1, police were called in after a four-vehicle collision near the M4 intersection in West Drayton. Officers attended the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Department.
“A London Air Ambulance landed at the scene. A 10-year-old girl traveling in one of the cars was airlifted to a hospital in south London with injuries believed to be life-threatening.”
