Chanelle, from Fremantle, Western Australia, continues to suffer from her symptoms, but felt that her fatigue was “normal” for a new mom. She even went on a healthy diet and exercise program to try to cure her fatigue, but hurried back to the doctor after falling into bed after a walk. The mother of two could not get up for days and pushed her doctor to undergo blood tests which showed she had low iron and anemia. He then underwent a colonoscopy in October 2020, which revealed that he had a large tumor in the large intestine. Further scans showed that the cancer had spread to her liver – and that it was Stage 4, or terminal. In a Facebook post he wrote: “Never in my wildest dreams could I think that within five years of becoming a mummy I would be told that I do not have much time to live. “Every day I wake up I wish I could ‘wake up’ from this nightmare and see that everything was just a dream. “Unfortunately it is not, this is my reality and the reality for the beautiful children and my husband. I do not want to leave them, not yet. “I love life and I do what I can to fight for my own.” The surgeons were forced to operate within a month because the tumor was so aggressive and removed the tumor along with the spots on her liver. Chanelle then underwent exhaustive chemotherapy for 13 months before her body began to struggle under treatment. The doctors then used a type of radiation therapy called CyberKnife, which was initially successful and sent her into remission after destroying damage to her liver. But a month later she was told the cancer had spread again, to the ovaries, abdomen, lymph nodes, diaphragm, lungs and returned to the liver. Doctors reportedly gave her six to 18 months to live, with her devastated friends and family trying to raise money for specialist treatment in the United States.
