The closely watched Ohio campaign contained months of competition between the top candidates to support Mr. Trump. More than $ 65 million (52 52 million) has been spent on television and radio commercials and dozens of discussions. Trump won Ohio by more than eight percentage points in the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections. Mr Vance had previously criticized Mr Trump before reversing his course. The former president’s decision to support Mr Vance has led to heated debate within the party. Other Trump-backed Senate candidates include Herschel Walker, a former American football star in Georgia, and Mehmet Oz, a television doctor and personality in Pennsylvania. Mike DuHaime, a Republican general, said: “It’s important for him to maintain this perception, and perhaps a reality, that he is a king in the Republican Party. “Trump support is still strong, but it is not invincible.”
