Watts, 36, is currently serving five life sentences without parole for the murders of Shanann’s then-pregnant wife and their young daughters Bella, 4, and three-year-old Celeste. 5 Killer Chris Watts kisses mistress Nicole Kessinger as they pose for a photoCredit: Netflix 5 Watts with his wife Shanann and daughters Bella and CelesteCredit: See caption In the beginning, Watts cynically acted as the concerned husband and father when Shanann and the girls were reported missing. After failing a polygraph test, he admitted to strangling 34-year-old Shanann at their home in Frederick, Colorado, but initially claimed she was the one who killed the children on August 13, 2018. Following his conviction in November 2018, Watts confessed to drowning the girls on an oil rig hired by the company he worked for. He dumped the girls’ corpses in oil storage tanks after burying his wife in a shallow grave nearby.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Watts was in a relationship with his partner Nichol Kessinger and was planning to start a new life with her.
Now former inmate David Carter, who says he spent two spells with Watts at the Dodge Correctional Facility in Wisconsin, has claimed that the killer denied responsibility for the heinous murder of his daughters by pointing the finger at Kessinger.
Carter, 35, who said he was serving a sentence for possession of methamphetamine and theft when he came close to Watts, told the Sun: “We were in the same unit, unit 11. “It’s for people who can not fit in with the general population and people with medical problems. “He was there to protect him and I was there for psychiatric issues and to cut myself. “One day we were reading the Bible and talking about God, it was October 2020. “I told him I could not judge him for what had happened, but I would like to know what was going through his head.” According to Carter, it was then that Watts said unbelievably that “Nicole had drowned the girls with their blankets and they drowned” Watts also claimed to have helped him “get the girls into the oil tanks and dig the grave for Shanann,” Carter added. Carter explained: “She wanted to start a new life with Nichol and Shanann was an obstacle. “Chris said it made him sad that the girls were killed, but that one of them woke up and saw that Shanan was dead and would be a witness.” Watts tried unbelievably to accuse Nichol of his murderous crimes, telling Carter that “he could not kill his own children and said that was why Nichol killed them.” To prove that the two of them know each other and have remained in contact, Carter showed the Sun a letter claiming that Watts sent it to him. The writing seems to match that of other letters Watts sent to author Cherlyn Cadle, who wrote Letters From Christopher about her communications with the killer.

NEW IDENTITY

Kessinger, 33, got a new ID and moved out of her home in Arvada, Colorado after Watts was arrested. She told police during her investigation that Watts had lied that he had divorced his wife and was planning to divorce her and she believed him. According to her web browsing history, which was allegedly leaked to documents from the Weld County Attorney’s Office, shortly after their relationship began in July 2018, Kessinger searched for the phrase “The man I have a relationship with says she will leave his wife “. On August 4, he spent two hours searching Google for wedding dresses before searching for “getting married to your mistress” on August 8, according to documents allegedly released by the DA. Kessinger said Watts would pay for a gift card appointment, but on their last appointment on August 11, 2018, she noticed that she used a personal credit card. He told police: “It was as if he had nothing to hide. Or nothing to lose “. Upon hearing the news of his family’s disappearance, Kessinger said he had sent a message to Watts asking to know if he was involved. Writing to her a few hours after he brutally disappeared his family, he said Watts replied: “I did not harm my family, Nicky.” He said these were the last messages they exchanged before Watts was arrested on August 15, 2018. Carter – who currently works at a fast food restaurant – says Watts told him that Kessinger had written to him while he was in prison using her new name.
There is no indication that he is actually involved in Watts’s crimes in any way. In his correspondence with author Cheryln Cadle, Watts even revealed that he knew the day before the killings that he was going to kill his daughters. He wrote: “On August 12, when I finished putting the girls to bed, I left and said, ‘This is the last time I will put my babies in.’ “I knew what was going to happen the day before and I did nothing to stop it!” Asked how he reacted when Watts made the allegations against Kessinger, Carter said: “I was shocked, I did not know what to think.” 5 Former inmate David Carter appears in a brochure photo Credit: David Carter 5 Watts appears to be taking a photo of Kessinger during their relationship Credit: Frederick Police Department 5 Watts poses for a mug in an orange prison uniform Credit: Frederick Police Department
