As the fire continues to spread south, one thing firefighters are working to protect is the watershed and homes just west of Las Vegas. “Crews continue to work up to 65 to protect prices that have been hit by fire or may be hit by fire. “Pipes are being laid across this corridor,” said Todd Able, head of operations. Nearly 1,000 firefighters are battling the blaze. People in nearby Las Vegas are in a frenzy, waiting to see if he is next. “We are almost ready to go when we are told,” said Ivan Gold. Ivan Gold says Louie’s grandfather has lived in the same house since the 1970s and has been here all his life. “I was a little boy and my grandfather was where we came for Christmas and all the holidays, the Easter egg hunt was done here, so there are a lot of memories here,” Gold said. But now the evacuation line is being drawn at the end of its corridor. “We felt good, but a few days ago it was very scary and it was falling and I think the report was 30,000 acres a day. “You could see a lot of smoke and flames from the front porch, so it was a big scare for us,” Gold said. Some of their neighbors had already told them to evacuate once. “We were told to evacuate two nights ago and my girlfriend and two neighbors stayed here to protect the property,” said Steve Martinez. Martinez said he had lived here all his life and never thought he should do so. “Never. Never. I have lived in Las Vegas for almost 70 years, I have seen many fires, but nothing like that,” Martinez said. Although the evacuation line is approaching their front door, the whole neighborhood is preparing and hoping it will not be needed. “Let’s hope that what they say is going to happen while praying for God to help us will not happen,” Louis said. There are currently no evacuation orders for Las Vegas City, but with most westbound or even northbound roads blocked, these neighbors are ready to go in an instant.
