Authorities issued an arrest warrant Monday for a prison official who is said to have helped an inmate awaiting trial on a murder charge escape from an Alabama jail. The couple was searched. Casey Cole White, a 38-year-old inmate, was handcuffed when he and Vicky White, the facility’s assistant director of repairs, left the Lauderdale County Detention Center in Florence, Alabama, on Friday morning. They have not appeared since, although the patrol car used by the couple as they were leaving the detention center was found in a nearby mall parking lot after their absence was confirmed. Authorities have no idea where they are, although the inmate should be recognizable by their size. He is 6 feet tall, 9 inches (2.06 meters) tall and weighs about 260 pounds. Authorities warned that anyone who saw the couple should not approach them. “We consider both to be dangerous and both are likely to be armed,” US Army Chief of Staff Marty Kylie told a news conference on Monday. He noted that Casey White will “stand out” because of his size even if he has changed his appearance. Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton said Monday they had issued an arrest warrant for Vicky White, 56, on charges of allowing or allowing an escape. It has nothing to do with White. He violated a policy that required the involvement of more than one official in his transfer, according to Singleton. The policy was implemented when White was jailed two years ago and authorities believed he was planning to escape. “We know he did, whether he did it willingly or under duress, he somehow threatened to get involved in the case, it’s not really certain. We know for sure he did,” Singleton said. Vicky White told her colleagues that she was taking him to the courthouse for a mental health assessment. But Singleton later said no such assessment was planned. He said the video shows the couple leaving the jail and going straight to this parking lot. “Casey White, as you have heard me say over and over again, is an extremely dangerous person and we need to find him and get him out of the way,” Singleton said. White was already serving a 75-year prison sentence for attempted murder, robbery and burglary when he disappeared. He had been returned to prison due to his latest charge. He was due to stand trial next month on a murder charge that charged him with stabbing to death a 58-year-old woman during a burglary in 2015. If convicted, he could face the death penalty. Singleton said Vicky White was an exemplary clerk and prison staff were “just devastated.” Vicky White had planned to retire and that Friday was to be her last day. She said she had sold her house about a month ago and “talked about going to the beach”. The sheriff said they had no information at this point as to where the two were. “If we knew where they were, we would be there and not here,” Singleton said. As an assistant director of corrections, Vicky White traveled to the county detention center several times a day and had many opportunities each day to get in touch with any particular inmate, the sheriff said. Her job duties included coordinating the transfer of detainees. Vicky White’s mother, Pat Davis, told WAAY she was shocked and scared for her daughter. “As a mother, I did not know how to act because at first I thought it was wrong. And then, when I knew for sure it was, it was just disbelief,” says Pat Davis. She told the station that “we just want her back” and found it hard to believe that her daughter would help a prisoner escape. “He has never done anything, I bet he never had a speeding ticket,” said Pat Davis.
