Vicky White, assistant director of corrections in the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, and inmate Casey White were last seen around 9:30 p.m. on Friday when he was released from prison, supposedly to take him to county court for mental evaluation, in Lauderdale County. said Sheriff Rick Singleton. The officer and the prisoner have nothing to do. Vicky White told a guard that she was going to leave Casey White in the courthouse and seek medical attention because she was not feeling well. No mental evaluation was scheduled for Friday and Casey White was never brought to court, Singleton said. Vicky White did not arrive at the scene where she said she was seeking medical help. Her vehicle, a 2013 Ford Taurus patrol car, was spotted in a mall parking lot around 11 a.m. Friday by someone taking a lunch break, Singleton said. Authorities did not realize he was missing until a few hours later. The police officers in the prison were worried and tried to approach her, but her phone kept going straight to the answering machine. Then they realized that Casey White had not returned to prison.
The prison officer was aware of the protocol for the transfer of detainees
Casey White was serving a 75-year sentence for a crime spree he committed in Limestone County in 2015, as well as for a murder in 2015, which he confessed to in 2019, Singleton said. In 2020, Casey planned to escape and take a person hostage, but his plan was discovered, the sheriff said. A policy has been implemented that stipulates that two sworn deputies must be with him at all times, even during the transfer to court, he said. Vicky White coordinated all transfers from the detention center to the court and therefore knew the protocol, the sheriff said. Authorities are now examining all possibilities for what happened, including whether the correctional officer helped Casey White escape. Speaking to CNN’s Frederica Whitfield on Saturday morning, Singleton said his office was approaching the case from three angles: If Vicky White was defeated and abducted. if he helped prisoner Casey White escape. and if she helped him, either he did it willingly or he was forced or threatened to do so. “Whether she helped him or not, we do not know and we will not deal with it until we have full proof that it happened. We assume at this point that she was arrested against her will, unless we can prove otherwise,” Singleton said on Friday. Authorities said they were still searching for and investigating any interactions between the correctional officer and Casey White, as well as any phone calls he had received. Security video from the area where Vicky White’s car was found does not show the two getting into another vehicle.
Vicki White “an exemplary employee”
Vicky White has been working in the sheriff’s office for about two decades and “does a terrific job,” Singleton said Saturday. “All her colleagues, all the staff in the sheriff’s office, the judges, everyone has the utmost respect for her,” Singleton said. “She has an impeccable record. She is an exemplary employee. Therefore, we are very concerned about her safety.” Casey White is six feet tall and is considered armed and dangerous. Vicky White “was armed with a 9mm pistol, which means we assume he is armed,” Singleton added. “Knowing the detainee, I think she is in danger regardless of the circumstances. She was in prison for murder and had nothing to lose,” Singleton said.
