Officers arrived and discovered Stanford with a knife wound to his chest. He was taken to St. John’s Hospital. Luke’s Roosevelt where his death was confirmed, police announced. Jesse Armstrong, 41, was arrested and charged with murder Sunday, the NYPD reported. It is unclear whether Armstrong has legal representation. The knife comes amid a rise in crime, with the city recording a 42.7% increase in major crimes compared to the same period in 2021, according to NYPD statistics on April 24. The figures include a 46.7% increase in robberies, a 54% increase in major theft cases and a 14.9% jump in rape reports. Murder rates have fallen by 13.1% compared to last year, but are still up 9.2% in the last two years. The NYPD plans to increase the number of night patrols in anticipation of rising crime in the city as temperatures rise, the NYPD confirmed to CNN on Sunday. There are also plans to add “violence reduction coordinators” to each city municipality, the department said.
