Forty-five-year-old Zhiwen Yan worked at a Chinese restaurant in Queens called “The Great Wall” and delivered his scooter on Saturday as usual. But after a delivery in the Forest Hills ended around 9:30 p.m., Yan was shot in the chest. The video shows Yan shooting at 108th Street when someone approaches on foot with a shotgun. Yan tries to roll back on the bike to escape, but the suspect shoots, sending the scooter to fall to the ground. He was later pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital. “Someone … someone killed my husband, catch him … catch him,” said Yan Kunying Zhao’s wife in tears. Zhao spoke to Eyewitness News on Sunday morning with her little daughter playing nearby. It is unknown if the victim was the target. Authorities said the gunman fired several shots and then got into a gray or tampa sedan and fled east on 67 Drive. Neighbors woke up shocked on Sunday. “We have never had such a thing, I am completely shocked, my wife called me to carry the call and said there is a crime scene down here,” said a witness. “This is not right. This is not our neighborhood.” No arrests have been made. An investigation is underway. This absurd act of violence occurred less than 24 hours after Mayor Adams met with top police officials to come up with a plan to combat violent crime.
