The 23rd Annual Memorial Ceremony was organized by the Ontario Police Memorial Foundation and took place at Queen’s Park.

The names of three officers who died recently were added to the Ontario Police Memorial this year, including Toronto police officer Officer Jeffrey Northrop, who was fatally struck by a vehicle while responding to a robbery call in his underground parking lot.

The other two names recently added are Manitoulin OPP police officer Marc Hovingh and Niagara County Police Officer Joan Theresa VanBreda.
Hovingh was fatally shot while responding to a property dispute in 2020. VanBreda was struck by a disabled driver while responding to a minor collision in 1986. She suffered extensive injuries and died in 2020 as a result of ongoing medical problems resulting from her injuries.
Three other names are also added after a historical investigation: Guelph police officer John Teevens, who died in 1945. Bradford police officer John Hickey, who died in 1897; and Brockville police officer Alexander Wright, who died. in 1895.
The last in-person ceremony took place in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Several roads have been closed around Queen’s Park for the ceremony.
