One person was killed and four others were injured in a shooting in Springfield early Sunday morning. According to Springfield Police Chief Capt. Michael Kranz, crews were called in to respond to the shooting in the area of Clifton Avenue and Rice Street shortly before 3 p.m. At least five people were shot, according to Kranz. One woman was killed and four others were treated. The shooting is still under investigation. Kranz has confirmed that this is the second mass murder in less than a year in Springfield. We called Springfield Police and Sgt. David Krauss told us that crews were called to the area around Clifton Avenue and Rice Street after reports of gunfire. According to the movement of the emergency scanner, the crews responded to the shooting around 2:45 a.m.
A teenager was arrested in connection with the deadly shooting near the Springfield Soup Kitchen Sgt. Krauss confirmed that at least four people had been shot. One woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the other three were taken to Springfield Medical Center. The extent of the other victims’ injuries has not been confirmed at this time.
